my love/hate relationship with alexander wang...

so its fashion week in nyc, and i'm no where near the action. i've been living and working in brooklyn like no other, so i've completely lost touch with the outside world that is considered designer and high fashion, and not vintage or hipster chic. There are always a few designers i look to for inspiration during fashion week, otherwise i let the masses and public relations do their jobs. One designer i was looking forward to seeing was alexander wang. i think he's gotten by with quite the foolery for a runway show, but i actually do appreciate his aesthetic, because i would design the same way, i just don't see his collection as being runway/fashion week worthy. the last 3 seasons have consisted of very accessible designing that you can find at any fashion institution with no particular "wow" factor, but has somehow received the "hype" factor.

his fall 10 collection was inspired by wall street, progress and growing up, and being sophisticated and polished but still breaking the rules. i dont buy it, and i'm not sure his customers will either. it has a bit less salability than previous collections due to its "grown up" inspiration. i can only see a few pieces selling rather than the complete collection. it doesn't possess that sexy, downtown chic wearability like before. the runway show actually reminds of the 90's goth heroine chic era, especially with the velvet, midriffs, and layering. check it out for yourself.

would you wear any of this, seriously?
