Wednesday

a "keep it real" moment...

so i have some rather awesome friends that like to try to motivate and encourage me. but no matter how much positive reinforcement i receive from them, i still just...can't...do it. i'm not sure why but my confidence feels low, even tho i think i can compete with the best of them and possess the knowledge and common sense to create salable, innovative designs, but for whatever reason i'm scared to try. i can't even put the pencil to the paper at this point. i do know that the business side of things is intimidating to me. its too hard to balance creativity and business, and who can you trust these days with your business?

i am continuously being inspired, but really have no time and no energy to release it. and now with this new life to plan and inspire, i'm not sure how i'm going to be able to balance it all. i want to be able to fulfill my own aspirations while still providing and inspiring my child. (:D) ny is full of inspiration and creativity, and so are all of my friends, but that is not fulfilling enough for me. i need to actively participate in the creative process. i need to see my ideas come to fruition.

and as i write this, a commercial for the city comes on, where whitney  prepares to debut as a designer. uugh. is it really that easy people? someone give me formula for success here. i must be missing something.

i just know my next move is a creative job, preferably in fashion. either designing or working with a magazine. its time to make that move.

Monday

my love/hate relationship with alexander wang...

so its fashion week in nyc, and i'm no where near the action. i've been living and working in brooklyn like no other, so i've completely lost touch with the outside world that is considered designer and high fashion, and not vintage or hipster chic. There are always a few designers i look to for inspiration during fashion week, otherwise i let the masses and public relations do their jobs. One designer i was looking forward to seeing was alexander wang. i think he's gotten by with quite the foolery for a runway show, but i actually do appreciate his aesthetic, because i would design the same way, i just don't see his collection as being runway/fashion week worthy. the last 3 seasons have consisted of very accessible designing that you can find at any fashion institution with no particular "wow" factor, but has somehow received the "hype" factor.

his fall 10 collection was inspired by wall street, progress and growing up, and being sophisticated and polished but still breaking the rules. i dont buy it, and i'm not sure his customers will either. it has a bit less salability than previous collections due to its "grown up" inspiration. i can only see a few pieces selling rather than the complete collection. it doesn't possess that sexy, downtown chic wearability like before. the runway show actually reminds of the 90's goth heroine chic era, especially with the velvet, midriffs, and layering. check it out for yourself.

would you wear any of this, seriously?

kickin off the year with some old shit

uffie- pop the glock

its been a rough start, a really rough start. problems rolling over from last year includes a overly complicated relationship that just had to end but continues professionally (uugh), a non heated apartment resulting in an ultimatum meeting with the landlords (we lost, moving at the end of jan) (double uugh), and unexplainable pains and health issues. most of these issues have solutions at this point. im gonna focus back on being creative to take my mind off this crazy relationship, gonna look for a more affordable place with utilities included and actually decorate it!!! and health insurance kicks in next month, so i should have some answers for these pains. overall the holidays sucked balls thanks to all these problems, mainly the boy. i couldn't be around anyone with how overwhelmed i felt. im definitely trying to move things in a different direction. seeing this video just reminded me of my time back in chicago. i can remember dancing without a care at some parties and drinking and jumping and curly sweaty hair and unexplainable stories the next day from either myself or my roommate about the events of last nite. good times. im not necessarily trying to relive those days, but somehow progress  and mature while still keeping my youth alive.

in the meantime, i'll just be hibernating and preparing for a good spring/summer until the sun comes back out to play :)

Friday

"famous girl" tee now available!!!

christian rich has collaboed with hellz bellz to release an exclusive "famous girl" tee to coincide with the rest of the chaos the song and video is causing. an uuber exclusive tee between the 2 brands, not to mention its only available thru karmaloop.com, will only add already existing fury of press.

The design of the shirt interprets the background of Christian Rich's video for "Famous Girl", which portrays the life that everyone dreams to have, but they do not comprehend the risks and negative aspects, blinded by a false image of a lifestyle full of fame and wealth.
watch the video here...

Congrats to CR and HB.

awesmazing inspiration: 3sixteen X richard haines

3sixteen has been making waves in the fashion industry a lot more than usual lately. with their acclaimed streetwear line turning into a full cut-n-sew men's wear collection to moving in to a new space, i'd say 3sixteen has developed considerably. from the typical streetwear branding of t-shirts, the label was able to transform and grow their collection into shirtings, ties, outerwear, and even some collaborative boat shoes. they are passionate designers who take their fashions seriously, and make sure the details are accurate, along with ensuring excellent craftsmanship.
below is the collaboration between 3sixteen and illustrator, richard haines. richard haines has a history of working with bill blass and j.crew to name a few. from his indepth fashion industry experience, his attention to fabric, stitching, fit, and style has added to his unique, quick drafted illustrations. 3sixteen noticed his attention to details and menswear, and commissioned him for their fall/winter 09 campaign. the video below documents a live session of haines' illustrating the looks for the campaign, narrated by a small interview. the chosen illustration would later be used for a wheat paste campaign to cover lower manhattan.

i can't even stunt...

i do like this shirt tho. i'm not a fan of karl's, but he is entertaining. and him as a cartoon just adds to his absurdity...

cassie for dimepiece...

so if you haven't figured it out yet, i'm a hater, or a harsh critic. i analyze everything from my respected love of design and logical point of view. i love to analyze people, presentation, and functionality. it should always make sense to me, and  when dealing with products, be functional and salable.

when looking at a fashion photo shoot, i always ask myself "what is being sold or showcased?" if you can't figure that out, then the shoot was pointless. art direction is key in photoshoots, and sometimes the idea gets lost in over accessorizing or styling or even celebrity models. there needs to be a balance with everything.

when checking out the dimepiece lookbook with cassie, i am definitely wondering what was the story behind the looks? and what products on cassie are actually dmpc? thinking logically, dmpc is simply streetwear. they havent been around too long, so they aren't completely cut-n-sew yet. ideally, they're still in the t-shirt phase and possibly an accessory here or there, for branding purposes, of course. so looking at everything wholly, i can help but wonder, where did all this other stuff come from? the story doesn't look cohesive yet from the pics @iamdiddy has leaked. but i'm waiting  for the official drop to make a final verdict on this collection. i'm really trying not to come off as a hater since i'm familiar with some of the people behind the scenes...we shall see...

none the less, bad press is still press.
