Sunday

so i've decided...

to take more initiative in my life and pursue more opportunities. this applies to all aspects of my life. i feel like i've been a bit too relaxed in my approach. i mean, things have really worked out in my favor because i believe god is really looking out for me, but just think how much greater and fulfilling my life could be if i actually put forth some effort. to be honest, i've been on cruise control for a minute, but i'm now living in a city with some competition. and i don't mean like qualified opponents, but just persistant candidates who know how to bullshit. basically, i need to step up to the plate, and bring it. i think its about time to see what ashley really has to offer this world. i am more than just a cute face.

i hope to make a mark in the world of design. i don't need to be famous, which is what everyone else in our generation is looking for. i just need to know that my work and p.o.v is appreciated, i.e a cult following. and that cult will appreciate all the side projects that follow as well.

and you, lil reader, can be a part of that cult, if you really like this blog. this blog is an extention of me, myself, as a brand. i promise, i won't poison you. i only want to delight you with my creations.

Sunday

address change...

so my living situation has been ever changing for the past 9 months i would say. i am officially in ny, staying with a friend. been on the couch for about 2 months now. and now...and now i say,
i get my own room!!!

i haven't been in a comfortable living environment in a long time. not even when i went home to st.louis for a while. my mom had changed everything back home, and there wasn't even any room for me. but now i'm finally settling into my own shit. me and my current roomie are moving rite across the hall. hehe. into a pretty nice size 2 bdrm. the rooms are a decent size, the bathroom is a nice size, lots of windows=lots of natural lighting, a deck, hardwood floors, enormous living room, 2 entry ways, high ceilings, and less than $1000 a month each. oh and did i mention i live in a mansion. uh huh. its the best building on the block. you know you've seen it brooklyn.

i'm pretty stoked because we get to just slide in, like 2mrow. just start moving all of our belongings over there and pay the 1 bdrm rent for july, then start paying the 2bdrm rent in august!

if that's not a deal and a blessing then i don't know what is.

hopefully with all this space, we can make a business. ideally, we'd like to have a showroom for my roomie's insane fashion closet. he buys all the stuff you wouldn't (not because its hideous, but you don't kno when or where you would ever wear it). and he actually wears the stuff and it works for him. he does a lot of photoshoots too. styling and modeling. we'd also like to showcase our designs : clothes and accessories. and we'll prolly lend our space for photoshoots.

so if you have an idea, holla at me.

info@teawithcrumbs.com will do for now...

wi-fi and happy hour

so rite now i'm enjoying a nice cold sapporo beer and free wi-fi. althought this beer is a good accessory, its not really helping too much. and havent been able to thoroughly look for a job because all of the networks in my area are secured. but word of mouth helps just as easily. this moment may seem like a complete oxymoron, but thats my life in a sense...i guess. what is great is that i've had a pretty good time since my arrival. since wednesday nite, i've hung out with several different people i knew previous to moving here. friday i went to get a fucked up haircut and paid $85 for it. thanks NY for welcoming...then sat in bryant park and contemplated starting my hair journey all over before meeting up with dan. he, of course, cheered me up with happy hour that lasted all day and nite. btw, champagne and long islands are not the way to go...waking up the next day was hard but good because of the weather. a nice high 70 something saturday is the way to go. i somehow managed to get dressed with a banging hangover and fucked up haircut, and  made my way down to l.e.s. i got lost, and in order to not look lost, i walked around the block and walked up the back street and guess who i ran into!!! evan and 'toine from cool kids! i'm loving these random moments i keep having. makes life exciting. i hardly get to see them anymore, so they kidnapped me and nurtured my hangover so i could do it all over again. i tagged along for shopping and a concert upstate (pictures soon). unfortunately, we didnt make it to any after parties, but i didn't need it anyway. just slept at the hotel and did the walk of shame in the morning. shorts on a mid 40 degree day is quite shameful but whatever. now i'm concentrating on finding a job. may be on a come up tomorrow so wish me luck. please lemme know if you hear of anything up my alley!

later.

xo.

Friday

the weekend is here...

drinks, music, sun, & shopping. what else do you need in this life?

don't forget to rsvp.

so in case you've been hiding under a rock...

im in NY along with the rest of the world!!!
im here indefinitely until the lord thinks i don't need to be here anymore. and by here i mean NY, not the earth...
since arriving in NY, i've made a new friend, jessie who lives around the way in bushwick; went out to marquee (had bottle service in a pretentious club with great music, go feds!); met some lovely lady friends, adrienne, founder of houston based online mag, theblvdmag.com, and her friend who's a solo artist, as well as a back up singer for chrisette michelle; touched based with most of my college friends, chicago buddies, and friend of friends; traveled to nj; had a boy make me brunch; attended the solo art show of darryl dennard; walked 6 blocks alone at nite in bushwick to eat pizza with a college buddy; and had no wi-fi connection since i left alton til now. all of this happened in my first 24hrs. on my 28th hr, i'm still high on seratonin from just 'being' here, but in need of some recooperating time...

and for those that dont know, im on a budget here til i find a gig, so dont be askin me to do anything ridiculous, like shopping or eating out, cuz im gonna tell you its your treat in a hot second.

Thursday

in the A, it goes down...

so me going to atlanta was totally a whim of a shot, even tho i know so many people there, but i didn't realize this until after i had the idea. originally i was gonna go with some girls from st.louis for the weekend, but a weekend is never enough for me, so i scheduled a week vacation to bounce around and see all of my friends. of course thing never go as planned, and i traveled alone, which really works better for me. i stayed with big homie kneesee, whom i met in chicago, and miss lola, whom i got reacquainted with and have developed quite the friendship. as you can see from my pics, she is quite photogenic and a great muse. these ladies were so inspirational to my photography, as well as their city. they introduced me to expired film, which is hella cheap! and a few photo sites, and we've even created a film photography collective...analog girls. all of us are obsessed with film, but have different perspectives and directions for our photography, but in the end, our obsession and appreciation for the art form is what brings everything together.
while in atl, we had some fabolous eats and drinks, made it out to a few parties, showed some canadian djs around, i met a cute korean boy who is totally obsessed (but its ok bc he talks with such a southern twang), went around to take pics EVERYDAY, and i made it to see some old friends from chicago, all but one, mr. won lee. sorry i missed you buddy.

travel journal starts................NOW!!!

so i'm catching a flight to atlanta in about 9.5 hrs. i'm hoping to have some good ol' freaknik moments...look at them girls with the dazy dukes on! from there i'm headed to texas, san antonio and austin for some sibling bonding and music discovery...i better run across some of this foolishness as well...

Tuesday

38 tips for a better life...

1. Take a 10-30 minutes walk every day. And while you walk, smile.
2. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day.
3. Sleep for 7 hours.
4. Live with the 3 E's -- Energy, Enthusiasm, and Empathy.
5. Play more games.
6. Read more books than you did the previous year.
7. Make time to practice meditation, yoga, and prayer. They provide us with
daily fuel for our busy lives.
8. Spend time with people over the age of 70 & under the age of 6.
9. Dream more while you are awake.
10. Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less food that is
manufactured in plants.
11. Drink plenty of water.
12. Try to make at least three people smile each day.
13. Don't waste your precious energy on gossip.
14. Forget issues of the past. Don't remind your partner with his/her
mistakes of the past. That will ruin your present happiness.
15. Don't have negative thoughts or things you cannot control. Instead
invest your energy in the positive present moment.
16. Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are
simply part of the curriculum that appear and fade away like algebra class
but the lessons you learn will last a lifetime.
17. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a beggar.
18. Smile and laugh more.
19. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone. Don't hate others.
20. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
21. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.
22. Make peace with your past so it won't spoil the present.
23. Don't compare your life to others'. You have no idea what their journey
is all about. Don't compare your partner with others.
24. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.
25. Forgive everyone for everything.
26. What other people think of you is none of your business.
27. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
28. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will.
Stay in touch.
29. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.
30. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.
31. The best is yet to come.
32. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
33. Do the right thing!
34. Call your family often.
35. Your inner most is always happy. So be happy.
36. Each day give something good to others.
37. Don't over do. Keep your limits.
38. Share this with someone you care about

im on a world tour rite now...

so since i've given up all responsibility to move to ny and chase my dreams, i've decided to take a break, similar to backpacking through europe, but not quite so glamorous. rite now i'm in jackson, TN, home to lane college, hbu, and my childhood sweetheart, marcus. man, its slow down here but this atmosphere brings a sort of humbleness to you. you really have to appreciate the simple things to live here. like tv...there's no wireless internet around!!!! my peoples don't even have a computer!!! i gotta walk a few blocks to the school for some internet. but whatever. i've caught up on some hood music, gucci mane, yo gotti, mentor, lil chat; got baptized in the spirits (i.e gin); and been hanging with the boys drinking whiskey and riding in candy painted chevys on 24s. oh and eating rotell!!! thats the best shit ever! its just some hood nachos but already spiced up. you just buy rotell brand cheese dip and salsa, brown you some ground beef, and mix all that together. its better than my sloppy joe dorito nachos. well enough words on this trip..i'll post some pics as soon as someone gives me a ride to walgreens to develop these pics...
